Pumppulohja bore well pumps Uppo-Pyke

The Pumppulohja bore well pumps are designed for reliable household water management.

Our WatMan PM series always uses the prestigious Franklin electric motors and pump parts that are known for their high quality. The pump is assembled in Finland and, if necessary, it can be equipped with the Aqua cable for potable water. The 3’’ diameter pumps are manufactured by Pedrollo and, if necessary, can be equipped with an Aqua cable.

Use sites: Farms, detached houses and summer cottages. If the bore well pump is installed in a dug well or a bigger tank, a cooler jacket must be used to prevent the temperature of the electrical motor from becoming too hot.
The pump is suitable for domestic water use in sites that do not process aggressive or corrosive liquids.

The centrifugal impellers are durable and the 4’’ motors are equipped with fluid film bearings.

Our selection also includes a large range of installation accessories.

Contact the customer service or resellers regarding any questions about the installation or pump selection.

The product must be installed by a professional according to the user manual. Check the dimensions and operation of the pressure tank during installation. The settings of the pressure switch and motor-circuit protection as well as the venting of the pressure tank must be checked annually. The pump delivery includes an exterior non-return valve which must be installed between the pump and the plastic pipe.

SIX TIPS FOR PURCHASING A BORE WELL PUMP

1. Well volume and depth: Find out the water volume and depth of the well before purchasing the bore well pump. This helps you pick the right pump size that corresponds to your needs.
2. Water level:
Measure the water level. This helps you pick a pump that operates at the right pressure and makes sure that you have enough water for your household needs throughout the year.
3. Sediment filtering: Sediment may accumulate on the bottom of a bore well. It is recommended to leave at least 5 metres between the well bottom and the pump so that sediment cannot damage the pump. Ask advice from the well-borer in order to determine the correct distance.
4. Maximum head height:
Measure the pump’s head correctly. It means that the pump must be able to lift water from the well to the use site and achieve maximum pressure. The dimensions of the pressure tank must also be taken into account if the well’s water level is high.
5. Pressure switch:
The pressure switch kicks the pump on when the pressure decreases, and it stops the pump when the pressure has reached the set maximum pressure.
6. Pump volume:
Choose the pump volume based on your needs. A suitable pump for holiday housing and family houses usually has a nominal flow of 15–35 litres per minute. It is not recommended to pick a pump that is too large for your needs as it may increase the frequency of times the pump kicks on.
Contact Pumppulohja or an HVAC planner in order to choose the right pump size.

12 KEY THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT WATMAN BORE WELL PUMPS

1. Electrical motor: The electrical motors are water-filled, high-quality motors built to the Franklin Encapsulated Nema standard. They are especially esteemed in demanding installation sites. The reputation of Franklin motors speaks for itself.
2. Pump component: The pump part utilises a Franklin E-Tech centrifugal pump. This guarantees efficient operation and a long lifespan. The diameter of the pump is 95 mm with the cable protector included.

3. Electrical cable Aqua electrical cables ensure reliable and safe operation.
4. Installation readiness
The pumps are assembled and prepared to be ready for installation at our factory in Lohja. You can be sure that you will receive a high-quality product with a long lifespan.
5. Operating conditions:
The pump can be operated at the temperature of 0–40 °C. It can also handle sand content (maximum 100 g/m³) and pollutants with a maximum diameter of 2 mm in the water without breaking.
6. Single-phase motors:
The single-phase motors of WatMan PM series pumps are 2 Wire motors with automated switch-on function. This especially helps if the pump kicks on stiffly.
7. Direction of rotation:
The pump rotates anti-clockwise from the pump outlet.
8. Efficiency and durability:
These pumps are both efficient and have a long lifespan.
9. Special requirements:
If the water has a high chloride content, our selection also includes acid-proof Franklin bore well motors.
10.3” bore well pumps:
If necessary, you can also choose a 3-inch bore well pump from our selection. In this case, the pump is manufactured by Pedrollo. Their maximum submersion is 100 m under the water surface.
11. Pipe size:
The above-listed flow volumes are usually suited for 32 or 40 mm water pipes. When choosing the pipes, make sure that the water flow in the pipe is not too fast. If the pipes are long, the pipe size must be measured carefully. If necessary, contact an HVAC planner for help.
12. Pressure shocks:
If the water flow in the pipe increases too much, the pipes may experience pressure shocks that can damage them. This should be taken into account in installation and planning.

PUMPPULOHJA WAT-1 CONTROL CENTRE

The Pumppulohja WAT-1 control centre is an excellent choice when you want to ensure the sufficiency of water and control the bore well pump effortlessly. WAT-1 control centre allows you to adjust pressure limits for kick on/off and dry-run pressure. This gives you better control over the operation of the pump. If you use the WAT-1 control centre to steer the bore well pump, the pressure switch is replaced with a pressure transducer (0–10 bar / 4–20 MPa). The pressure transducer must be ordered separately. Install the motor-circuit protection normally after the control centre. WAT-1 control centre product code 21010.

Dry-run protection can also be installed with EL-22 dry-run protection.

CHOOSING THE CORRECT PRESSURE TANK

When the water level in the well is high, the pump produces a larger flow. As a result, the tank may fill quickly and the pump may kick on more frequently. Through choosing the correct pressure tank size, the pump does not kick on more than 20 times per hour. The pump must not kick on more frequently than at maximum 3 minute intervals. We recommend that the pump does not kick on more than 15 times per minute. Overly frequent switch-ons can be prevented by choosing a sufficiently large pressure tank.
The storage capacity of pressure tanks used in detached houses is usually adjusted to 15–20 litres between the times the pump kicks on. A larger capacity decreases the frequency that the pump kicks on and may be needed on sites such as farms and homes for larger families.
Many of our customers like the Pumppulohja 50 litre KPSV tank for detached houses and holiday housing. This stainless steel tank can be opened and washed, and its structure has a long life span. The capacity of the KPSV tank is stated in the brochure.
If you are purchasing a membrane pressure tank, remember to check the pre-charge pressure of the membrane pressure regularly. This ensures that the tank continues to function correctly.

NOTE IN PUMP INSTALLATION

1. Attach the electrical cable to the water pipe so that it does not rub against the well edges when the pump kicks on.

2. We recommend installing an exterior non-return valve on top of the pump, as impurities from the well may block the non-return valve inside the pump.

3. We recommend that an acid-proof wire is used to help with the installation. Our selection also offers ready-made wire kits that include cable heads.

4. Make sure that the pipe fixing is properly attached to the pipe. You can order Beulco fittings for the installation through us. If you use a reinforcing agent in the installation, make sure that it does not get into the non-return valve.

5. If the product is installed for the winter so that the pipe drains into the well, you must use necessary valves in the installation and take water drainage into account when planning and building the pipe system.

NOTE IN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

1. Make sure that the electrical cable is the correct length so that the tension of the electrical motor does not decrease below the set limits. For example, the limit values for a Franklin motor are +6% / -10% from the rated voltage.

2. Always use motor protection according to the user manual. It is a good idea to change the motor protection when switching to a new pump.

3. Make sure that the motor protection fills the criteria of the EN 61947-4-1standard. Trip time 500% in the IN mode should be under 10 seconds.

4. Remember that the guarantee is not valid without an operational motor protection. The electrician should also measure the insulation resistance. The motor is working properly if the insulation resistance at 20 °C is at least:

  • For a new motor: over 4 M
  • For a used motor: over 1 M

For example, for the WatMan PM 10-18 pump the recommended values are: Minimum frequency is 30 Hz and maximum is the motor’s rated frequency. The pump should reach 0–30 Hz under one second. Always check the motor from the manufacturer’s user manual.

If the bore well pump is installed in a dug well or a tank, use a cooler jacket to ensure sufficient cooling. Our selection includes the most commonly used cooling jackets.

FREQUENCY CONVERTER OR SOFT STARTER

If you are using a frequency converter or soft starter, follow the motor manufacturer’s separate manual. For example, for the WatMan PM 10-18 pump we recommend the following indicative values:

  • Minimum frequency: 30 Hz
  • Motor’s max. rated frequency
  • The pump should always reach 0–30 Hz in under one second.
  • Always check the manufacturer’s user manual for additional information.

    OVERGROUND INSTALLATION

You can use an adapter or a generic bore well cover (available with 125/140 and 169/195 diameters) in the installation of the overground parts of the bore well. It is important to protect the well from groundwater and other impurities. We recommend reading the well use guide by the Ministry of the Environment before installation.

    4771092 COVER Ø 125 mm/140 mm

    4771094 COVER Ø 169 mm/195 mm

Rubber, reinforced with metal. Loop for attaching the safety wire. Stops groundwater, litter and small animals from entering the well to pollute it. Includes stainless steel pipe spanners.

    SOLIDS FILTER

If fine stone particles are transferred from the well, we recommend installing a solids filter. E.g. WatMan FP3 cartridge filter. HVAC code 3614491.

    THIS IS A GENERAL GUIDELINE

Always read valid, product-specific user instructions and follow them and all regulations. The installation must be carried out by a professional. Go through the installation document, user instructions and basic instructions after the installation.
Avoid installation errors and check the pre-charge pressure of the pressure tank. This helps you save costs and ensure functional water management.

    COMMON REASONS FOR PUMP DAMAGE

Fraying of the electrical cable: Make sure that the electrical cable does not rub against other surface parts.
Dry-running: Ensure that the pump does not kick on without water.
Issues with the power supply: Check the operation of the motor protection. Under or over voltage, or the wrong phase order.
Impurities in the water: For example, iron or manganese may cause blocking and affect the efficiency of the pump. The membrane of the pressure switch may also collect impurities, which may cause the pump to not kick on/off normally.
Installation errors: Install the pump carefully and follow the instructions.
The pump kicks on too frequently: Avoid starting the pump too frequently.
Incorrectly measured cable: Ensure that the length of the cable is correct.
Pipe damage: Make sure that the pipe between the pump and the house has not broken or frozen.

If there are issues with the power supply or the weather forecast has predicted thunder, we recommend switching the pump off. The bore well pump is structurally sensitive to power issues.

We hope that you will choose our product. A high-quality product and careful installation ensure reliable and effortless water flow for bore wells. The installation costs of a bore well pump are relatively higher, so it is smart to choose a product with a long life span.
